SNOW and ice forced the postonement of Kendal's trip to play Harrogate last Saturday, but it did not mean putting the feet up at Mint Bridge.

The first and second-team players were put their their paces in a lunchtime training session on the white pitch.

Overseeing the session was Head Coach Jon Nicholson, who was assisted by full back Simon Mulholland, who has coaching experience from his time spent in Southern Ireland.

After the session the reward came with lunch and a chance to watch the Springboks defeat England in the Test match on SKY TV in the clubhouse.

The freezing weather casts doubt on an early resumption to the National 2 North campaign, but if the weather relents then Kendal have a formidable task against Leicester Lions.

The Lions will be expected to win - their only defeat in 12 games came at the hands of leaders Loughborough when edged out 13-10.

Nicholson set out what is expected when he said: "Competitive games at this level are won and lost on fine margins ..it is not enough to win the battle of muscle, we must also win the battle of wit.

"Enterprise and cool heads are needed at critical times of the game.

"We have the capability to take on any team at Mint Bridge, but in order to be victoriouss we have to take individual responsibility for our decisions and think before we act.

"Wearing the Black and Ambers jersey brings responsbility and obligation - these are not optional."

One match survived the cold snap last Saturday.

Rocked by a five-point deduction earlier in the weekend after being found guilty of fielding an ineligible player, Hull have themselves the perfect pick-me-up with a 30-15 home win over city rivals Hull Ionians.

Winger Alex Piercy celebrated his 100th appearance for the club with a try.

Ionians were well in the game at the break, scoring two tries to trail by just a point buy flanker Sinone Onesi scored two qucikfire tries around the hour mark to kill off the match.

Meanwhile, Westoe's clash at Loughborough is the pick of Saturday's fixtures.

Recent good wins over Caldy, Huddersfield and Fylde have helped consign a five-point deduction also suffered by Westoe to the memory bank.

They go into the match lying third and 10 points adrift of the Students, who they defeated 22-16 away from home last season.

At the bottom a win for Nuneaton at Morley would see them leapfrog their Yorkshire opponents and moveo ut of the relegation zone.
