Kirkby Lonsdale ....51 BAE Barrow......5 BAE had a bigger pack for this Powergen Junior Vase second-round tie, but Kirkby were faster around the park and made it count on the scoreline.

Fit-again Anderson stormed over for an early unconverted try and Kirkby were straight back on the attack for Mallaband to come into the line to score again.

Wylder made some powerful runs until he suffered a deep cut to the head which forced his retirement, Turner coming on to replace him.

BAE Barrow were not getting much of a look-in at this stage and a multi-passing movement put Hind into space and he cut inside for Kirkby's third try, which Hadwin improved as Kirkby looked to have the game already sewn up.

Another flowing movement saw Shepherd drive over for another try before an interception gave BAE Barrow a chance to get on the scoresheet, right wing Andy Bennett running in from halfway.

But it was only five points after the conversion attempt hit the post and bounced out.

Kirkby's back row did not let the BAE forwards get very far as they tried to drive off the back of the scrum and flanker Alan Robinson finished off a move up the right for a fifth try.

Although Taylor's departure with a knee injury was a blow, Kirkby were satisfied to turn round with a 27-5 lead.

BAE showed greater deter mination in the second half and got downfield thanks to a couple of penalties, but dropped the ball trying to run it along the backs in the Kirkby 22. Hind picked up and showed deceptive pace to run on from all of 70 yards for a converted score.

If the visitors looked a little dispirited, there was little respite. Another try followed from A. Robinson, Hadwin converting and then Storey stole the ball and put Hind away for his hat-trick.

When Slingsby burst through from midway to storm over, it took the score past the half-century mark.

Kirkby looked capable of scoring another 20 points but fell foul of the referee in the closing stages and failed to add to their tally. As BAE are still only one place above Kirkby in the league table, this was an encouraging sign for their future meetings.

n Kirkby are away to Old Bedians in the next round on November 5.
