KENDAL A travelled with a weaker side for a quick rematch with Fylde A, this time in the Halbro Cup, but did not lack commitment or pride in a narrow 29-26 defeat.
Early Kendal pressure, aided by the strong wind at their backs, led to penalty chances for fly-half Park, who put over one of three attempts. The Fylde No. 10 countered with several probing runs, but could find no way past full back Tilsley.
Kendal's defence finally cracked for Fylde to score a converted try.
Kendal came back with a tackle-breaking run from flanker Oliver, who released Bowman to go over from 15 metres out.
In the second half Fylde struggled initially and Park kicked two more penalties and then chipped through to release winger Greenhow. He was brought down after hacking on, but Adrian Nutter scooped up the loose ball to go over from close range.
Fylde took a grip on possession in a key passage of play and scored three more tries and a penalty to lead by eight points with three minutes left.
Kendal rallied and after a series of five-metre penalties Pearson barged his way over for a try. Park opted to drop the kick to save time but missed and the final whistle blew.
