KENDAL face "bogey" opponents Darlington Mowden Park in National League Division 3 North at Mint Bridge on Saturday (2.15pm kick-off) after four weeks without a home match, writes Richard Daniels.

Mowden have piled over 150 points into the Black and Ambers in four defeats in the past two seasons over a Powergen Cup and three league meetings.

Kendal coach Neil Rollings said: "They would have every reason to hold the view that we are something of a pushover as we have been battered by them in the past.

"However, since Christmas we have conceded no more than 10 points in a game and would have guarded confidence in our developing defensive abilities, and this match will indicate if this belief is correct."

When the teams met at Mowden back in October, Kendal only went down 29-20, having trailed 26-3 before rallying to score three tries before a last-gasp drop-goal denied them a bonus point.

Rollings added: "The motivation is there to put the record straight."

Kendal name a full-strength side, including Paul Dodds at centre, whose landmark achievement of 350 first-team appearances for the club, will be honoured with a post-match presentation.

Kendal's main function-room bar has undergone a complete re-fit and has been named "The Peter Kremer Bar" in honour of the club's late coach.

Workington............................. 3 Kendal................................... 36 KENDAL won through to the quarter-finals of the Story Construction Cumbria Cup with a 36-3 win over a strong, determined Workington side at Ellis Park.

The first of Kendal's six tries was straight off the training pitch. Good lineout ball was moved into midfield where centre Martin Armstrong broke through the first line of defence into the 22, where his pop-up pass was taken by full back Simon Mulholland, who was cutting the angle at full pace and he scored beneath the posts, Dan Stephens converting.

Kendal had to wait another 25 minutes before they scored again.

Workington proved to be strong opposition and their forwards were a challenge for 60 minutes.

Winger John Ladell scored the first of his two tries after a galloping run from second-row Dave Preston set Kendal up to spin the ball wide.

A minute before half time John Ladell again crossed the try line to give Kendal a 17-0 half-time lead.

Ten minutes into the second half, Kendal scored their fourth try. The ball was worked downfield, where Dan Stephens recovered his own chip over the top into the 22.

The forwards drove the ball on for prop James Bracken to crash over for the try, Stephens converting.

As in the first half Kendal had to wait another 25 minutes before they scored again. With Workington just beginning to tire a little, Kendal were able to release Luke Ladell down his left wing and he scored out wide.

Moments later the Ladell brothers combined well to out pace the home defence and Luke raced in to score his second with replacement Andrew Boardley adding the conversion.

The four remaining second round ties, all delayed by the weather, have to be played before April 6. Netherhall, St. Benedict's and Millom are the other sides safely through.
