WINDERMERE will be happy to have won their first away match in the Cumbria League this season, but will know that for all their dominance and quality it should have been by a bigger scoreline.
Five player changes were made from the previous week, but the visitors still fielded a strong side with several making their first start of the season.
Gosforth opened strongly and earned a penalty which they converted for a 3-0 lead after 10 minutes. However, Windermere's forwards became increasingly dominant in the set pieces, driving hard and rucking well to outplay their opponents.
Twice in the first half Windermere forced their way over the tryline, but were held up and then dropped the ball when about to score.
After 25 minutes of waiting, Windermere's deserved score came when full back Rensberg touched down following sustained pressure in the Gosforth 22.
In the second half Windermere had the advantage of the diagonal crosswind and continued to apply pressure to the Gosforth line without turning it into points.
Gosforth defended well if constantly penalised for offside or collapsing as they tried to disrupt the visitors' progress. How-ever, Windermere kept to the task and added a second try after 65 minutes.
It came when No.8 Gregg drove through and found centre Norton with a short-pass to burst away and score, with Sansom converting for a 12-3 cushion.
Gosforth then produced their best spell of the match, but Windermere's resolute defence made it two wins out of two to top the table with Netherhall.
