Last weekend’s Glyn Memorial Trophy Stages caused an upset or two in the www.evoparts.org.uk Stages Championship but mainly for the Co-drivers.
Chris Williams sat alongside F1000 leader Cameron Davies and after winning the Junior event by over a minute Cameron was crowed F1000 Champion with the final round to go and Chris has moved into 3rd place in KLMC’s Tarmac Championship.
Martyn Taylor who was guiding Flookburgh’s Aaron McClure, had a slightly testing weekend when on the first stage to be run in the dark, the Micra’s lights failed. Being resourceful, as they were half way through the lap at the time they finished the lap on side lights and indicators. This dropped them from 3rd at that point to 8th but made for an interesting Sunday as they climbed back up the timing sheets.
The Fayrer Garden Escort of Championship leaders Neil Mashiter and Jane Clark had a very quiet weekend, literally, as the local pairing were unable to run due to a technical issue, this left Paul Miller and Katy Mashiter, to score maximum points in the main event although they had to take avoiding action when finding their path littered with 205’s on a couple of the stages held in the evening and did have a coming together with a stack of tyres first thing on Sunday morning.
The final round of the Championship is the local Grizedale Stages and so it could all go down to this event and Jane’s reply to Martin was, “Hmm with only 21 points between us and 25 up for grabs on Grizedale, its not over yet!”
