Kendal 10 - Teeside Univ 0...
KENDAL Ladies finished off a busy weekend of hockey on top of both the Cumbria and Netherwood League and with a comprehensive 10-0 home victory over the University of Teesside in the England Women's Vase tournament.
The win takes them away to Brooklands in the fourth round on January 22.
Against Teesside on Sunday, Andrea Elvey demonstrated lethal finishing form with a first-half hat-trick and the side's confident attacking, using the width of the pitch, and their precision marking meant Teeside rarely got into the Kendal half.
Vicky Jones added a clean strike from the top of the D as Kendal turned round 4-0 up.
The second half followed the same pattern with Kendal's Nicky Jones and Vicky Jones extending the lead, while Rachel Elleray also wanted a piece of the action and netted three times.
Kirsty Ormrod scored to take Kendal into double figures just before the final whistle as all of the side gave 100 per cent.
It crowned an outstanding weekend, with Kendal netting 19 times and keeping a clean sheet in two of the three games with keeper Holly Price to thanks for that.
It began with a 5-1 away victory over Ulverston in the Netherwood League on Saturday.
Vicky Jones gave Kendal an early lead and skipper Sarah Bird quickly made it 2-0, but Ulverston pulled one back before half time.
Kendal went on to dominate the second half more emphatically and they wrapped up victory with further goals from Vicky Jones, Louise Whiteley and Andrea Elvey.
Kendal faced two fixtures on Sunday including the third-round Vase tie but first there was a Cumbria League trip to Windermere, where they won 4-0.
Once again Vicky Jones and Bird were on target as the visitors' fluent passing and moving were rewarded.
When two penalty flicks were awarded against Windermere because the keeper trapped the ball on the line with her feet, Nicola Martindale and Vicky Jones made them count to extend the lead to 4-0.
It allowed Kendal to relax a little in the second half and use their substitutes to rest players in what was a fine squad performance.
Dalston 4 - Ambleside 1...
AMBLESIDE made a bright return from a four-week break to beat Dalston 4-1 but only after slipping behind to a breakaway goal in the Cumbria League clash on Saturday.
Excellent linking put Kelly Williams in space for the equaliser and she took up another excellent position to convert from close range to make it 2-1 in the second half.
Ambleside stepped up a gear in the second half and scored twice more, Nicola Conway fastening on to Williams' pass to round the keeper and coolly finish before Louise Hartley converted at a goalmouth tussle.
Ambleside's Amie Davidson worked tirelessly in midfield, with Amanda and Janet Faulkner providing good supply for the forwards.
Penrith.....................1 Kirkby Stephen.......1 KIRKBY Stephen travelled away to Penrith on Saturday hoping to consolidate their position at the top of the table.
Six junior players in the visitors' squad surprised Penrith with their mature play and Kirkby dominated the first 20 minutes, going ahead with a goal from Litini Newcombe, following-up from a penalty corner that had broken down.
Penrith bounced back to even the scores after a series of passes in the D confused the Kirkby Stephen defence.
For much of the remainder of the first half the Kirkby Stephen defence was kept busy with their keeper Jane Moorhouse making a series of superb saves.
Although the pitch was slow, Kirkby Stephen raised their game and controlled the second half.
There was good linking play between Ros Cramp at the back through Claire Sproat in the midfield and Sarah Bowman at the front.
Tireless work by the whole team resulted in a number of short corners, which Kirkby were sadly unable to convert.
The 1-1 draw leaves Kirkby Stephen sharing the top of the table with Kendal.
