Kirkby upped the pace in the second half with good runs from Lil Prime creating many chances.

Ruth Stickings scored after some good work from Lisa Potter. Potter then added a third. Great work from the Kirkby defence helped keep them ahead and Linda Johnstone, was voted player of the match.

Oxton only scored in the last seconds.

Kirkby are now second in league, one point behind the leaders.

Kirkby lift title...

KIRKBY Stephen Ladies clinched the Cumbria Under 19s hockey title at Troutbeck Bridge on Sunday with a thrilling 1-0 victory over Wigton in their final match of the tournament.

A late change to a round robin' format meant that Kirkby, who did not arrive until the afternoon, were forced to play their four matches in quick succession but, after a nil-nil draw with Ambleside, they comfortably defeated Glaxo and Keswick before getting the better of previously unbeaten Wigton in a fascinating contest.

Wigton had the consolation of second place with the promising Amble-side squad, who improved with nearly every game, third.
