Without a competitive fixture for five weeks, Kendal were keen to return to the fray and emerged from a tough Cumbria League mission at Barrow with a 4-1 win.

Within the first few minutes, Kendal went behind and it required a determined response, which came when skipper Sarah Bird scored the equaliser from a well-worked short corner move.

Kendal's attacking game gained the upper hand and Bird put Kendal 2-1 ahead from another short corner with a reverse-strick flick into the top ccorner.

Just before the break, Kendal broke down the stubborn Barrow defence to make it 3-1, Vicky Jones slotting home an excellent short through the keeper's legs.

Barrow pushed players forward in the second half in a bid to retrieve the game, but Kendal tightened up their defence and were still able to break for a fourth goal.

It was a superb solo effort from midfielder Jo Martin, who dribbled her way through the defence and beat the keeper.

Ambleside maintained a good run with a 6-3 victory over Keswick in a fast-flowing match.

Keswick took an early lead but Louise Hartley quickly put the visitors back on level terms with a deft reverse-stick finish from around the penalty spot which flew past the keeper's foot.

Once again Keswick forced their heads in front but Ambleside responded to go into half time 3-2 ahead with Lauren Wright steering in the ball at the left post and then Amanda Faulkner's hard-hit shot from a penalty corner proved too hot to handle for a defender on the line.

Ambleside then went 6-2 up with Nicola Conway adding the fourth after good movement around the circle. Further goals followed from Louise Hartley and young Kelly Williams before Keswick pulled one back to make the final score 6-3.

Sue Conway played solidly at centre defence for Ambleside and team-mate Amie Davidson did a lot of important running and hassling in midfield.
