WINDERMERE Ladies' Cumbria League squad stepped up their game to beat Carlisle 3-2 on Sunday.
After conceding an early goal, Windermere's determination levelled the score through a well worked short corner resulting in Carole Quill firing home.
Windermere's well-rehears-ed team play saw Helen Parsons link well with Shona Taylor on the right to release Quill down the wing to work a one-two with newcomer Dawn Atherton to score a second goal.
Karen Scott worked hard in defence and it showed with a third goal after a strike at goal from Quill led to Katie Hoyle sending the ball sweetly into the opposition net. Carlisle tried to fight back but goal-line clearances from Alison Spiby and Louise Cooper frustrated the visitors.
Carlisle pressure finally paid off with a last-minute solo goal but this was too late to affect the final score.
Kendal Ladies went to the top of the Cumbria League after Sunday's 2-1 victory at Cockermouth.
A momentary lapse by Kendal after a good start let in the home side to go ahead but the visitors went on to dominate the first half with Andrea Elvey and Claire Martin both going close before Ashley Coulson equalised from a penalty-flick just before the break.
In a more even second half Alice Mullin put Kendal 2-1 ahead with a tap-in at the back post and they had a goal disallowed afterwards.
Excellent teamwork and passing was a feature of Kendal's display with Sarah Dent, Nicola Martindale and Jo Martin putting in strong performances.
Last season's top scorer for Ulverston Ladies, Paula Eddy, came out of retirement to help out the side in a 2-0 defeat against Dalston on Saturday.
Several of Dalston's players have gone to university or were unavailable and a depleted side faced a lot of defending, with Eddy breaking on the occasional counter-attack but denied by good saves.
A scrambled goal gave Dalston a first-half lead and while Ulverston's Julie Bownes, playing outfield, created some good moves, a second goal came via a deflection off an opponent.
Good work by Steph Richards, a right back playing on right midfield gave her the player of the match vote.
Ambleside Ladies youngsters opened the Netherwood League campaign with a 5-0 home win over Glaxo. Nicola Conway opened the scoring, but Glaxo's defence from Margaret Mawdsley and Anne Clayton soaked up more pressure.
However, Lauren Wright scored off a Conway rebound and the latter scored twice more in the second half.
Ambleside's fifth and final goal came when Marie Kitching was quickest to a loose ball in a goalmouth scramble.
Amie Davidson was tireless in the Ambleside midfield with Adele Fletcher, Eidlidh Seigal and Ellen Batterson putting in fine performances.
