KENDAL Men lost their opening match of the season 2-0 in the North West league division five (north).
With only ten men available, the signs were bad from the start but Kendal managed to hold visitors Lytham St Anne's until after half time.
Calm passing and outstanding tackling limited the visitors to a handful of meaningful attacks, but Kendal struggled to generate clear chances with only one centre forward.
One of Kendal's players had to leave at the break, which made it 11 men against nine and made the home side's task even harder.
Lytham scored a goal with a counter attack and followed that up with a second only a few minutes later.
Kendal managed to construct some incisive moves and penetrating attacks but they came to nothing.
The club is looking for new players of any age. For more information, please telephone 07973 714522.
Newly-promoted to the North West Hockey League Division 9 (North), Windermere played their first league game against Golborne at home on Saturday and came out 6-0 winners after a positive and productive match. Captain Dominic Quill led a strong and determined squad, producing some superb set pieces which led to goals from Scott Santamara (2), Steven Heynes (2), Sam Crompton and Gary Garside. New players to the team Scott Santamara and Steven Heynes brought new dynamics to Windermere's formation. Golborne were kept goalless by a strong midfield and a solid defence.
