KENDAL Ladies reached the last four of the Cumbria Tournament at Carlisle on Sunday, beating some rivals for the first time and enjoying a thoroughly positive day for a team playing together for the first time since April.
In their first game Kendal dominated opponents Dalston with a 3-0 win, Louise Whiteley opening the scoring and Vicky Jones scoring two impressive goals.
Kendal then beat Wigton and Carlisle both by a clear-cut 3-0 margin. Sarah Brooks (2) and Sarah Dent were on target against Wigton, while Jones bagged another couple against Carlisle with Dent also getting on the scoresheet.
Their next opponents Penrith proved to be more competitive, but Kendal held them to a scoreless draw.
Kendal then faced Keswick and Brooks grabbed a last-minute goal for a 1-0 win to confirm them as top of the pool.
Moving into the semi-finals, Kendal faced Netherhall and, despite continuing to play above their expected form, they were caught on the break just before the end of the second half. They had chances to equalise but the keeper was hard to beat and they went down 1-0 but left heartened by the day's efforts.
