THE slide down the Premier Division One league table continued for Kendal Ladies as they fell to defeat against visitors Durham University 3s.
Despite welcoming back goalkeeper Ruth Sealey to the squad and unlike last week, having enough players to field a full complement, they battled hard but were unable to pull a win out of the bag and suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat.
The Greens got off on a shaky start and nerves were rattled when Durham managed to score from a penalty corner within just three minutes.
But the home side were far from disheartened and eventually equalised in the closing minutes of the first half when attacking player Rosie Dale scored following a penalty corner.
And they showed some fine form in the second half as they put in an excellent performance.
Dominating Durham’s territory, they looked to have got their just reward when Karen Tyson managed to score from a penalty corner.
However, the umpire disallowed the goal after ruling that the ball had come into contact with Mel Whalley-Jones’ foot before it hit the backboard.
The Greens battled on and created a host of chances, but to their great frustration, they were unable to convert any of them.
When the visitors went onto the offensive, keeper Sealey made some fantastic saves to keep Kendal in with a chance.
But it was all in vain as Durham secured the win with a goal in the 54th minute of the match, and the Greens were unable to grab a second leveller despite their continual efforts.
Kendal hope to get back on track when they visit Stokesley Ladies 1s on Saturday with pushback at 1.45pm.
Illness claimed four Windermere Ladies 1s players on the morning of their away match with Lancs Central League Premier Division leaders Pendle Forest 2s.
And Pendle gleefully dispatched the depleted Mere side 9-0.
Kyrsten Fox, the mother of one of Mere’s stricken players, deservedly got their player-of-the-match award for turning out herself to make up the numbers.
Mere have now dropped to third in the division.
