KENDAL had their biggest win of the season with a 10-0 demolition of Blackburn It was a must-win' game, with Blackburn being one of only two teams below Kendal in NW Division Five and only five matches remaining.

In a determined start Ewan Galloway opened the scoring with less than five minutes on the clock.

Moments later Galloway again romped into the D but the keeper twice parried shots from him before Rob Bradshaw flicked the third rebound in to give Kendal a two-goal advantage.

Kendal's pacy young wingers Liam Derome and Ollie Murphy caused the visitors all sorts of problems and with Galloway hitting the target, the Blackburn keeper had a busy afternoon.

A combination of good goal keeping and wily defending meant, however, that Kendal were initially unable to develop their lead.

Blackburn had the occasional breakaway and Kendal's Josh Chacko made a couple of good saves to keep the half-time score at 2-0.

Skipper Bradshaw used the interval to bring on Jon Elleray and Jon Airey. The change revitalised the team and following a swift attack from the restart Elleray's first touch was to fire the ball into the net.

Another goal quickly followed from Galloway and Blackburn were under siege.

From a free hit just inside the Blackburn 25, Bradshaw slipped the ball to Galloway and he sent the ball rocketing inside the far post for his hat-trick.

In possession Blackburn looked competent and had a number of players with good stick skills but once they lost the ball their marking was not tight enough and Kendal made the most of the space they were given.

Galloway became the provider for the next goal, using his pace down the left to find Steve Barclay on the back line. Barclay's precision pass back to Bradshaw on the penalty spot was summarily despatched to bring the score up to six.

Blackburn worked hard to try to take something from the game, but Kendal's back line of Airey, Boyd and Donaldson remained impenetrable and alert to start counter-attacks Fine interplay between Bradshaw, Blunt and then Davis set up Barclay to fire in to the roof of the net for goal number seven.

With the game secure, vintage player Duncan Rhodes came on in place of Martin Boyd. While Rhodes does not have Boyd's athleticism his lack of pace is made up for by cunning and craft.

Galloway reinforced his place as top scorer when he added his fourth goal, Stephen Johns then rifled in his contribution and Liam Derome rounded off the scoring with a clever deception, rolling the ball just inside the near post.

It had been a superb team performance of flowing exhibition hockey, well orchestrated by skipper Bradshaw, and it gives the players a much-needed fillip going in to the closing stages of the season.
