ULVERSTON showed superior firepower to emerge winners in their Cumbria League derby clash with Glaxo in the first part of a double fixture weekend.
With local pride at stake, both sides set off in a determined mood but Ulverston's good inter-play brought the breakthrough when winger Lynn Fitzwilliam crossed in the Glaxo D for Rachel Smith to finish superbly.
Glaxo responded with a few good attacking runs, but Caroyln Metcalfe snuffed out the threat and Ulverston had the ball in the net from a breakaway, but the goal was disallowed A second Ulverston goal arrived, however, when Niki Satterthwaite played the ball upfield to Fitzwilliam, whose expert flick sent a shot beyond the keeper's reach.
Glaxo pressed hard to get on terms in the second half and Ulverston keeper Claire Baxter made some good saves but the opposition pulled one back.
Fitzwilliam cancelled that out with Ulverston's third goal after she despatched Claire Grace's accurate, short pass into the net.
Satterthwaite took the senior player award and Bryson the junior.
Ulverston brought on fresh legs to maintain their momentum and a fourth goal sealed victory as Vicky Bryson broke down the right wing and found Grace in the D to convert.
