Thousands of Blues fans are heading to London for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final between Carlisle United and Southampton at Wembley on Sunday 28 March.
Many fans took the advice announced by Virgin Trains that they should book early to be sure of travelling. They reserved seats from Carlisle to London for travel today, returning on Sunday.
Those who turn up without reservations may not be able to get on their chosen departure because trains will be so busy. The advice is not to travel unless seats have been booked. This includes return trains on Sunday.
Route improvement work between Carlisle and Preston on the West Coast Main Line between 12:00 on Saturday and 15:00 on Sunday means that between these times passengers will be travelling north of Preston by road coaches or diverted trains. Fans will not be able to reach London on Sunday in time for the kick-off.
The usual route is open again in time for return journeys on Sunday after the match, but previously available seats have been reserved by fans who planned their journeys soon after Carlisle United FC got through to the final.
