FELL RUNNING: Helm Hill's Alastair Dunn had to make do with second place in both races that he competed in over the weekend, writes Mike Addison.
On Saturday he was runner up behind Ellenborough's Ricky Lightfoot in the Causey Pike Race while on Sunday he finished behind Ambleside's Simon Stainer in the final Kendal Winter League race of the season at Elterwater.
The near-perfect conditions for Causey Pike saw 127 runners set off up the steep Rowling End climb with Andy Hilton from York Acorn taking an early lead.
On the final climb up Causey Pike he was passed by Ricky Lightfoot who went on to win in 33-55 with Dunn just eight seconds adrift and Borrowdale's Simon Booth third in 34-21.
The first lady home was Holmfirth's Lisa Lacon in 41.58 followed by Keswick Louise Roberts in 44.44 and fellow club mate Angela Brand-Barker in 45.38.
Stainer became the sixth winner of a Kendal Winter League race in the last of the 11 event series and led from start to finish. Dunn and his team-mate Tom Addison were involved in an interesting tussle for second place which the BOFRA champion won after putting in a spurt coming off Silver How.
