STAVELEY'S Rob Jebb enjoyed a second successive win when he travelled north at the weekend to compete in the Tiso Carnethy 5 Hill Race in the Pentland Hills near Edinburgh.
The British fell running champion was almost a minute faster than last year although the conditions were in stark contrast to the high winds and ice the athletes had to contend with in 2006.
This year's conditions were near perfect and Jebb clocked 47-59 to win by half a minute from Shettleston's Jethro Lennox with Scott Fraser of Edinburgh University coming home third.
"I did not really expect to win because I've still got my cycling legs," said Jebb, who recently represented Great Britain in the cyclo-cross world championships. "I ran with Jethro Lennox most of the way and pulled away on the last climb (Carnethy).
Carnethy's Angela Mudge (56-09) comfortably won the ladies' race finishing 25th with British champion Natalie White, of Bingley, second. Jebb's partner Sharon Taylor was fourth lady behind Jill Myruka.
There was a record field of 484 finishers - 24 more than the previous biggest field in 203 - with 104 of the competitors being women, which was also a new record.
The Scald Law Junior Hill Race was won by Ochil Hill Runners' Jamie Stevenson who overtook Helm Hill's Jos Addison - who had led to the top - in the finish field. Ulverston's Ulverston's Tom Doyle set a new record in winning the U14 category - 22-19 - beating his Helm Hill team mate Rory Addison (22-25) while the Col Fun Run was won by Helm Hill's Harris McGaff.
