DYNAMIC descending saw Wharfedale's Ted Mason win the sixth Kendal Winter League race of the season on the precipitous slopes of Barbon Fell, writes Mike Addison.
He celebrated with a full body flip as he crossed the line at the very bottom of the hill much to the amazement of spectators.
Ambleside's John Deegan had what looked like a commanding lead at the summit turn but he was no match against Mason's daredevil descending skills on the slippy grass and scree. Deegan's team-mate Paul Knowles was third with Helm Hill's Peter Ward finishing fourth.
Milnthorpe's Wendy Dodds, who runs for Clayton, found the course to her liking winning the weomen's race ahead of Kendal's Pauline Symonds.
For the second week running Helm Hill's Jos Addison had a big lead at the top in the U17 boys race only to see it snatched from him on the descent. Rossendale's Grant Cunliffe overhauled him on the descent this week showing great courage as he hurtled down hill, tripping on the way but still managing to maintain his balance.
The U17 girls' race was won by Rossendale's Francesca Gregory who was being hauled in on the descent by Helm Hill's Jenny Addison.
Helm Hill's Tom Doyle was commanding in the U14 boys race getting away from the chasing pack on the climb and turning at the top with a healthy lead which he extended on the descent.
He left team mate Rory Addison and Dallam's Sam Till trailing in his wake. Dallam's Melanie Hyder won the girls' U14 event.
Helm Hill's James Knox kept running on the climb while behind him everybody was walking as he turned in an impressive performance to win the U12 boys race ahead of Dallam's Sam Till and Dale Sutton.
There was plenty of support on the fell for Helm Hill's Lauren Munro Bennett who won the U12 girls race in fine style from team mates Lorna Nunwick and Megan Stuart.
