FORMER English and British Fell Running champion Rob Hope emerged victorious in the Fairfield Horseshoe fell race on Saturday, pipping Borrowdale’s Morgan Donnelly to the win by just eight seconds.
The Pudsey and Bramley AC runner led a high-class field home in 1:19.28 on Saturday in the English Championship race, with Staveley’s Rob Jebb third a minute behind the leading two.
Victoria Wilkinson was the first female home in 33rd overall. The Bingley Harrier smashed the course record by a full minute to finish in 1:27.15, five minutes ahead of Moorfoot’s Sarah McCormack, with Heln Fines of Calder Valley third.
University of Sheffield’s Jonathan Crickmore and Karl Grey from Calder Valley made up the top five, with Carl Bell seventh.
Of the local runners, Mark Addison from Helm Hill finished 12th, with Eden runner Kim Collison 16th and Thirlmere’s Gavin Bland 17th.
Jane Reedy from Ambleside AC was eighth woman to cross the line as more than 400 runners finished the event.
