CHLOE Wilcox from Shap bagged a brace to make it three goals in two games as Great Britain went down 16-3 at the Water Polo Arena.
Her first goal was a great shot into the top left corner that left the keeper with no chance as the first quarter entered its final stages to pull it back to 3-1.
Then in the second quarter she fired in a right-handed effort from the left hand side to get the second goal for Team GB and herself as she narrowed her side’s arrears to 6-2.
Burton-in-Kendal's Alex Rutlidge, who broke her ribs the last time Team GB played Australia in January, had an effort three minutes into the match which went over the bar.
But the British girls kept giving away loose passes that allowed Australia onto the attack, and that proved to be the key difference between the sides as Team GB failed to make the most of their power plays.
Australia, who won the inaugural women’s water polo Olympic competition in Sydney in 2000, went on to win 16-3.
Team GB’s next opponents are Italy on Friday.
