CUMBERLAND were left to feel frustrated as the rain wrecked their latest bid for Minor Counties glory this week.
The county stars were facing Cambridgeshire in March – but the match at the picturesque March Town CC barely got going thanks to the inclement weather.
The first day was completely wiped out by the weather but Monday was an extended day with play starting early and going on until 7.30pm.
In that time Cambridgeshire declared on 303-8 in 90 overs with Chris Thompson making an excellent 117 not out.
Former England and Surrey man Darren Bicknell fell for just 16 while there were two wickets each for Kendal skipper Chris Miller and Carnforth professional Toby Bulcock in another assured display.
In an effort to force a result Cumberland thrashed their way to 127-5 from 41 overs before the close with Jon Miles unbeaten on 58.
The weather was to have the final say, however, and play was washed out on Tuesday with the game called off as a draw.
The next game is against Bedfordshire from July 22.
