CUMBERLAND'S bid to reach a Lord's final ended with a 58-run defeat away to Berkshire in Sunday's MCCA Trophy semi-final at Falkland CC, but Cumberland skipper Gary Pratt was unhappy with the umpiring.

Cumberland team manager Ian Sharp said: "It was disappointing to lose the semi-final but the umpiring was so poor that captain Gary Pratt has reported them to the Minor Counties - three poor lbw decisions were given against Cumberland which ruined our chances of victory."

Kendal's teenage opener Jonathon Miles top-scored for Cumberland with a sparkling 75 that included 12 fours.

Berkshire batted first and made 300-9 off their 50 overs, with Michael Roberts compiling 103 and David Barnes 86 for the bulk of their runs.

Best of the Cumberland bowlers was Chris Williams with 5-44.

In reply, Cumberland were dismissed for 242 after 45.2 overs.

Miles' 75 was the outstanding effort in the innings as Tom Lambert took 4-42.
