THE Great Langdale 10k Christmas Pudding Runs on Saturday and Sunday have both been cancelled due to the inclement weather and the state of the course, says organiser Rod Berry.
A website statement from the organisers reads: "After a very difficult 24 hours we have been forced to cancel the Great Langdale Christmas Pudding Run 2010. "We were hoping for a thaw in the weather. However Langdale received another four inches hes of snow on Tuesday night, adding to the few inches already on the ground.
"An inspection of the roads and parking have lead us no choice but to cancel the race at this time....the roads have been narrowed by snow ploughed to the sides, making it dangerous for cars passing runners, also there are places where there is standing snow/slush on the roads.
"Our second problem, after the safety of the runners, is parking, our normal parking field is covered in 8" of snow, the old road, where we park in emergencies also is under 8" snow and the adjacent National Trust car park has hard compacted, slippery snow on it, making it almost impossible to enter. "A decision on what to do now with the entries will be made by Rod (berry) and the organising team and we will update next Wednesday to let you know."
RUGBY: Kendal's away match against Nuneaton in National National 2 North set to go ahead after a pitch inspection. But it will be on the outside No.1 pitch and not on the stadium pitch as previously advertised at 2pm. The Kirkby Lonsdale RUFC home match with Vale of Lune at Underley Park is off because of an unfit pitch and it was a similar story at Windermere RUFC who were due to play St Marys OB (Lancs).
FOOTBALL: Kendal Town's match at Stocksbridge PS in the Evo-Stik League was postponed on Friday due to an unfit pitch and for the second week running the entire West Lancashire Football League programme was postponed.
Most matches in the Westmorland Football League and the North Lancashire Football League have also been called off.
