TWO gifted goals in three minutes in the second half killed off Kendal's Town Evo-Stik Challenge Cup bid in a 3-1 defeat at Woodley Sports on Tuesday evening.
Another bad away day at their First Dvision opponents for Town saw them slump to a fifth defeat in a row and they have now gone out of all cup competitions.
Efforts from Gary Stopforth and Danny Rowe had forced Woodley keeper Liam Higginbotham into neat saves as Kendal struggled to make an impact in the first half and a Mike Clark header from a cross from the right after 42 minutes put Woodley 1-0 up at half time.
Town brought on wide men Lee Mulvaney and Carl Osman as they adopted a 4-4-2 formation and chased the game in the second half, but Keiran Walmsley inadvertantly stroked a back-pass in the 68th minute that bypassed keeper David Newnes for an own goal.
Shortly afterwards Rory Winters’ failure to cut out a corner-kick allowed Chris Smith to squeeze a free shot past Newnes.
Although Danny Rowe fired in a trademark curling 20-yard shot on 84 minutes, Town never looked like rescuing the tie and Woodley deservedly went through.
