AN EXCITING points battle ensued at the final Mini League gala of the year when Troutbeck Bridge ASC hosted teams from Kendal, Appleby and Penrith.
Guests of honour Coun Roger Bingham and Life Managing Director David Howell, along with a full spectator gallery, saw some fine swimming from the competitors aged from under nine to 14 and over.
The gala got away to a brilliant start for Troutbeck Bridge with Sophie Richardson just touching out Ruby Frankland to win the 25m butterfly and set a new club record.
However, the Kendal breaststrokers Grace Gladwinfield and Jakc Gibson turned in top-level swims to pick up wins.
At backstroke, Penrith got their swimmers going with an immaculate effort in the boys' event, while Katie Harrison of Troutbeck proved a worthy winner for the firls.
The freestyle saw Kendal's Nicola Capstick and Jacob Conway claim comfortable wins.
The relay events produced more impressive action with Kendal's 10/11 squad of Luke Dalzell, Mia Senior, Emily Reay, Daniel Armstrong and Ruby Vernon winning both medley and freestyle.
Troutbeck's 12/13 combination of Emily wild, Amy Richardson, Scott Munro-Bennett and Nicholas Carlton also recorded wins at both medley and freestyle.
Going into the final stages, Kendla, Troutbeck and Penrith were still working hard to get the lead.
Despite a fine win in the Cannon by Kendal, the efforts of Troutbeck's Emily Wild, Scot and Lauren Munro-Bennett in the backstroke and breaststroke secured enough points to seal the overall win and the trophy.
Result: Troutbeck 113pts; Kendal 121; Penrith 114; Appleby 40.
