SCRUM-half Andrew Boardley and flanker Gary Holmes both had to be stretchered off the field as injuries continue to rock Kendal and they suffered a 10th consecutive National League defeat this season.

Holmes was knocked out cold and had only left the field in the 68th minute when the stretcher had to be immediately brought back for Boardley, the goalkicker, in agony with a suspected broken ankle after a tackle.

Leicester scored two more tries in added-on time to win 38-16, but Kendal showed plenty of spirit and did themselves proud with their attitude from the start.

A Chris Park try after four minutes after sharp play by the backs was followed by two penalties from Boardley as they lead 11-0 after 15 minutes.

Leicester, whose strong pack increasingly dominated as the ground cut up, came back with two tries, one of them converted, before half time to turn round 12-11 ahead.

Kendal weather sustained pressure before stand-off Jimmy Thompson added their second try after good work by Ryan Dobie following a lineout, but the conversion failed and restricted the lead to 16-12.

Leicester kept pounding away and two tries in five minutes pushed them 10 points clear before Kendal were hit by the double injury blow, with Chris Park already off with a cut head earlier, and their 14 men conceded another two scores, making it six in all, in the 12 minutes of time added on for the lengthy stoppage.

The scoreline did not tell the story of a brave Kendal effort against the odds, but a depleted squad will be struggling to regroup for the away trip to New Brighton next Saturday before the New Year break.
