KENDAL Town's ground may not have the futuristic look of Bolton's Reebock Stadium, or the splendour of Sunderland's Stadium of Light, but it has acquired something just as important - a main sponsor.
For the next year the ground will be promoted as the Planet Conservatories Stadium under a deal with the Dockray Hall-based firm which will bring the club a much-needed cash boost of over £3,000.
Other clubs at Kendal's UniBond league level will be looking with envy at the deal brokered by Town's commercial manger Jim Wood with Planet owner and managing director Richard Hodgson. Mr Hodgson said: "It is all part of putting something back into the community that has been good to my staff and my business. We employ around 45 staff and many of them are fans of Kendal Town FC." The sponsorship deal will see the Planet logo prominently displayed both inside and outside the ground.
Club secretary Craig Campbell said they were grateful for the cash injection at a time when costs of running a club were rising, but it was becoming harder and harder to obtain sponsorship.
