SPARKLING performances by two North Lancashire League sides saw them remove two of the Furness Senior Cup favourites.

Cartmel hit top form to beat West Lancashire League side Bootle 5-2 with goals from Dean Richards, Phil Gillette, Tim Brooks, Ricky Wallbank and Peter Whitehead.

Swarthmoor Social Club, at full strength for the first time in weeks, played their best football of the season in beating a strong Barrow AFC Reserves side 5-2. Graham Wilcock and Colin Woodburn scored two apiece with Ryan Lackey adding the fifth.

Premier Division INGLETON are at last getting back to their best form and they claimed a second win of the season by beating CCM Dynamos 3-2.

Goals by Duncan Sullivan, John Hargreaves and Chris Jackson all came from excellent passing movements and other chances went begging for both sides.

Kirkby Lonsdale avenged the previous week's cup defeat by Morecambe Royals by beating them 3-1.

Royals took the lead from a penalty, but elusive Jaffa Bojang slipped his marker to head in a quick equaliser.

Kirkby rarely score headed goals, but this time all three came from headers as Steve Chapman and Andy Metcalfe made the game safe.

Division One VETERAN Peter Gadsden scored all five goals as transformed Grange made it six wins from their last six games by beating Burton Thistle 5-2, reversing a 5-0 early season defeat. Dan Nicholls netted twice for Thistle.

Third-placed Cartmel Reserves ran out 3-1 winners from a slick passing game with Morecambe Royals Reserves.

Lee Tracey cancelled out an early Royals goal, veteran Paul Airey made it 2-1 and Tracey rounded the scoring off with his second strike.

Bentham appeared to be heading for defeat at 3-1 down to Community Sports. Then they raised their game and deservedly forced a 3-3 draw with goals from Andy Whieldon, Gary Louth and Chris Hodgkinson.

Millhead had to work harder than they had anticipated against bottom team Arnside, who defended strongly before losing 3-1. Derek Davidson (penalty), Seamus Gorton and Dominic Wooff scored for Millhead with David Parsons netting Arnside's late consolation.

Ingleton Reserves outplayed Vine to win 4-1. Alex Hartley hit a hat-trick, all from around 25 yards, and Dave Shaw added the fourth.

Division Two HOLME Athletic and Freehold served up a thrills and spills match in the first round of the Scotts Sports/Whiteside Cup, before Freehold took the spoils with the only goal of the game.

In a second round match Alec Gorton scored the only goal as Carnforth Rangers beat Halton Rangers 1-0.

In the league, Bolton-le-Sands dropped two vital promotion points and were lucky to escape with a 1-1 draw against Arnside Reserves.

Richard Kirkham scored for Arnside and Graham Kemp hit the Sands equaliser.

Allithwaite Rangers were on the wrong end of a 6-3 score line against Morecambe Hoops, Dave Benson, Andy Paisley and an own goal making up the Allithwaite tally.

Division Three GRANGE Reserves came within two minutes of their first win of the season before conceding a controversial penalty that allowed Moorlands to escape with a 2-2 draw. Liam Smith and David Simpson were on target for Grange.

Strugglers Allithwaite Reserves and Galgate Reserves are also still waiting for a first win after battled out a 3-3 draw. Brad Thompson (2) and Rob Pocklington scored for Allithwaite.

Burton Thistle Reserves were hammered 7-1 by Highgrove Reserves. Sixteen-year-old Anthony Duckworth scored the Burton consolation while veteran Gareth Wilkinson found his own net with a header as he tried to help out the defence.

Division Four FURNESS Rovers overwhelmed the youngsters of Poulton United Reserves 15-0, but unbeaten Bower-ham had to work hard to win 1-0 against improving Bolton-le-Sands Reserves, whose 18-year-old keeper Russell Shimmin was outstanding.

Carnforth Rangers hit Villa Royals 4-1 in group one of the Kelly/Flynn/ Cunningham Cup thanks to Alex Benson, Peter Chippendale (2) and Wayne Jackson.

In group two, Bentham Reserves lost out 5-4 as Heysham forced a late winner past superb Bentham keeper Allan Collins. Danny Ellershaw, Tom Burns and James Barlow (2) scored for Bentham.
