Kendal Town 2, Woodley Sports 1.
Three hard-earned points boosted Kendal to fifth in the UniBond League First Division table.
On an ice-cold afternoon at Parkside Town's injury reshaped side took time to settle and conceded a sloppy sixth minute goal when Carl Healy arrived unmarked in the box to net a ball squared from the left.
Poor challenges on the slippery pitch produced a rash of yellow cards and Woodley enjoyed the best of the first half until two minutes before the interval when Lee Ashcroft sprayed the ball out to right winger Peter Smith.
Smith's fine cross from the bye-line was met by an equally fine header by David Foster to beat the keeper at the far post.
Six minutes into the second half Foster returned the favour, flicking Ged Smith's long cross on for Peter Smith to hammer it home.
Kendal were superior in the second half, but copious use of the offside trap by Woodley and failure to take their chances when the trap was sprung prevented further scoring.
Nevertheless Town will be happy to have the points from a side who looked better than their position in the bottom half of the table suggested.
On Tuesday Kendal are back on the trophy trail with a visit to Fleetwood Town in a re-arranged Lancashire Cup match.
