CONISTON put in a plucky display in a 5-3 victory over Appleby, having trailed 2-0 to goals from John Coward and Neil Dean.

Defensive mistakes did not help the Appleby cause and the home team capitalised as Glen Todd pulled a goal back when the Appleby keeper failed to scoop up the ball and it squirmed away from him over the goalline.

Coniston were in charge in the second half and there was an element of luck about Tim Fletcher's equaliser but no quibbles about the third as Todd spun and hit a superb volley on the turn to give his side a 3-2 lead at half time.

Further goals from David Cooper from a goalmouth scramble and a Wayne Walker header tightened Coniston's grip before Dean sneaked one back for Appleby, whose chance of the win had disappeared.

Kendal County went second to Wetheriggs after digging themselves out of a hole as they turned a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 victory.

Windermere took the lead through Jamie Parkinson's lob and they added another in the second half to make it 2-0.

The turning point came when Parkinson got through one-on-one with the keeper but put his shot over.

Instead County reshuffled and pulled a goal back, Ben Haddrick's speculative shot creeping into the corner.

Almost immediately Peter Nicholls seized on a chance to level the scores and Jamie Close put County 3-2 up from the penalty spot and then sealed the comeback from a second attempt at a rebounding free kick.

Craig Walmsley advertised his case for a return to the first team by hammering all six goals in County Reserves' 6-3 win over Carvetii United in the Junior Cup.

Ibis lifted themselves out of the bottom two when 4-2 winners over a Lunesdale side struggling to recapture their early-season form.

Chris Ellwood's firm header from Ryan Ormrod's cross rewarded Ibis for early pressure, but they were caught on the break and Paul Boustead equalised.

In a close game Ibis went 2-1 up through a Mike Packham header at the back post.

Lunesdale levelled for a second time in an even start to the second half, but Ibis nullified the score when Liam O'Callaghan cracked in a volley.

Ibis keeper Dan Wilkinson pulled off two crucial saves to preserve Ibis's lead before Gary Taylor eased nerves by tapping in five minutes from the end.

Slow-starting Sedbergh went behind at Greystoke to a back-post header but stepped up the tempo in the second half and scored twice through Chris Wheatley and a Craig Gardner penalty.

Sedbergh's good work was then undone as Greystoke answered with a 25-yard shot to level the scores and force the 2-2 draw.
