KEEPER Andy Kendall was taken from field with a suspected broken leg in an incident which marred Cartmel's 2-1 defeat of Carnforth Rangers in the second round of the Adam and Gaskell Senior Cup.

He was injured during a challenge, which led to Carnforth being awarded a penalty.

Alec Gorton scored from the spot, but Cartmel booked a place in the third round with a brace from Graham Rhodes.

Also in the cup Arnside won their first game of the season when they came from behind twice to beat Allithwaite Rangers 3-2.

Austin Foster gave Rangers an early lead, but Eddie Harte equalised before half-time.

Will Anderson restored Allithwaite's advantage and with time running out it looked as if it might be good enough to book a place in the second round.

Player-manager Ian Clarke brought himself on for Arnside, however, and within two minutes of joining the action he equalised then supplied an inch-perfect pass for Ben Lenton to hit the winner.

Premier Division Ingleton also won their first game of the season although they struggled to beat second division Holme Athletic 3-1.

Holme never stopped running, but Ingleton were just too good. Tommy Murray gave them an early lead, which Phil Eccleston extended from the penalty spot. Duncan Sullivan added the third with Joe Mather on target for Holme.

Kirkby Lonsdale had an easy 4-1 win over Freehold, Andy Metcalfe (2), Chris Vincent and Kenny Balmer their scorers in a game of good sportsmanship.

Fourth division Furness Rovers rarely tested Premier side Morecambe Royals who won 3-0.

First division leaders Swarthmoor SC outplayed Caton United in the first half of their second round tie and led through a Graham Wilcock goal. The Premier Division side then stepped up a gear and won 5-1, Steve Oliver hitting a hat-trick.

Cartmel Reserves missed a chance to go top of Division One when they lost 2-0 to Slyne-Hest Reserves, who scored through Ian Palwanker and James Harrison.

Millhead became the division's leading scorers when they beat Grange 5-2. Phillip Tattersall (2), Anthony Leonard, Dominic Wooff and Russell Stubbs scored for Millhead with Peter Gadsden and Craig Turner replying for Grange.

Storey's Reserves proved too strong for Burton Thistle and ran out 4-2 winners. Derek White (penalty) and Reuben Gray scored for Thistle.

Bolton-le-Sands comfortable lead at the top of Division Two has shrunk to just two points after they slumped to a second successive defeat, this time a 4-0 beating from Marsh United Reserves.

Kirkby Lonsdale Rangers remain rooted to the foot of the division, but made Caton United Reserves work hard for their 2-0 victory.

Swarthmoor Reserves had no answer to newly promoted Halton Rangers who are beginning to find their feet in the division and ran out 5-0 winners.

In Division Three, Central Pier overcame hard-working Burton Thistle Reserves 2-1, Gareth Wilkinson netting the Thistle consolation.

Craig Switzer scored for Grange Reserves who slumped 4-1 to Boys Club Reserves while Allithwaite Reserves were thrashed 7-1 by Highgrove Reserves.

Bolton le Sands Reserves just shaded their local derby with Carnforth Rangers Reserves 1-0 in Division Four, Jamie Nicholls netting the goal.

n Craven Junior Cup favourites Ingleton Reserves had to struggle before beating Hellifield Reserves 3-1.

In the first half Hellifield scored and threatened to run away with this first round game, but second-half goals by Alex Hartley, Jonathan Lister and David Preece turned things round.
