WITH a strong breeze at their backs, Poulton immediately put Corinthians under pressure. A low cross from the right was partly parried by a combination of Davidson and Sharpe, but a Poulton forward reacted quickest to poke the ball home.

Within 20 minutes, Poulton increased their lead. As Corinthians attempted to play their way out of defence, a misplaced pass from Duckett gave away possession. A few passes later, the ball it was hammered home from the edge of the area.

Just before half time, a Duckett long throw found Johnson unmarked inside the Poulton penalty area, but his lob held up on the breeze and was cleared off the line.

Early in the second half resurgent Corinthians matched their opponents. Adam Pashley broke clear and tried to curl the ball round the advancing keeper, but the shot failed to bend enough and went wide.

Pashley's hard work was nearly rewarded when he chased down and robbed a defender, but his shot sailed over the crossbar.

Poulton scored from a penalty despite the attacker appearing to hold Johnson's shirt, and a fourth goal followed when a shot from the edge of the area deceived Sharpe.

A consolation came for Corinthians in the last minute when Davidson's free kick from Davidson found Gaz Parry at the far post to shoot from five yards. It hit the keeper, but substitute Shane Dixon was on hand to bundle the loose ball over the line.
