KENDAL AC competed in the fifth Mid-Lancs Cross Country League fixture at Hyndburn on Saturday.
Ditches and tree roots always make the going difficult in the woodland sections at this venue.
And this year heavy rain turned most of the course into a quagmire, making conditions even more challenging, causing many slips and falls throughout the afternoon.
Junior man Alasdair Russell had yet another good run in a Kendal vest to finish second and is well on course for a podium position at the end of the season.
Under-15 boy Daniel Edmondson (pictured below), who has been off form for most of the season, came back with an excellent run to finish second.
Both Alasdair and Daniel will not race again until the English Schools Championships in a couple of weeks' time.
The senior men were led in by Dick Gorst, who improved on his performance at Kendal in January to lead the team home in 56th place.
Mike Walsh, making his first appearance of the season over the country, was second counter for the team in 63rd place.
Peter Acland (79th), Stuart McGurk (123rd), David Whitehead (143rd), Andy Stafford (167th) and Paul Percival-Smith (175th) managed to close the team in third place.
Due to injuries and illness Kendal ladies were only able to complete a Vet45 team. Marion Smith had yet another good run to finish 10th Vet45, Heather Goodman finished 15th Vet45 after falling on both the first and second laps. Carolyn Kevan was the third counter in 20th, which gave Kendal AC third team.
