FIVE new records were set in the fifth Kendal Winter League race centred on Whitestone Fell near to Staveley-in-Cartmel.
Race of the day was the under 14s boys' race which saw Settle's Matthew Fretwell and Dallam's Alex Till battling all the way to the finish funnel.
Only a few metres separated the pair as they charged off the fell and in the 100 metre sprint to the line Till managed to get onto Fretwell's tail and each showed a gritty determination to win.
Fretwell just managed to hold on to his slender lead and collapsed to the ground exhausted after passing through the finish funnel, his time of 8-12 knocking nine seconds off the previous best mark.
In the girls' under 14 race Helm Hill's Jenny Addison destroyed the previous best record time by 37 seconds coming home in 9-25.
Helm Hill's Alistair Dunn broke the senior mens' record by a margin of 16 seconds after being pushed all the way by his team mate Billy Procter, who finished just 15 seconds behind.
These two dominated the race from the start with another Helm Hill athlete - Mick Hoffe - making his way steadily through the field to place third. His partner Nicky Lavery Hoffe won the ladies' race ahead of Wharfedale's Katie Rogan.
Helm Hill's Tom Addison sliced seven seconds off the U17 record but was made to work for his win by Rossendale's Phil Bolton, who dogged him all the way to the finish line with just two seconds separating them at the end.
Keswick's Emily Knox won the girls' U17 race.
Ulverston's Tom Doyle convincingly won the boys' U12 race, shaking off the chasing Rory Addison on the descent to clip nine seconds off the previous record. Dallam's Melanie Hyder continued her recent good form to lead home the U12 girls.
