IN the Adam and Gaskell Senior Challenge Cup, Allithwaite Rangers, from the lower reaches of Division 1, caused a major upset by beating last season's Premier Division runners-up Slyne with Hest 2-0 and deservedly so.
Slyne Hest could not break down a solid Allithwaite defence and had no answer to the impressive Chris Pullman and Will Anderson, who scored the goals.
Rangers will now meet favourites Kirkby Lonsdale in the quarter-finals.
Division 2 side Bentham beat Division 1 outfit Burton Thistle quite easily 3-1 after James Earnshaw, Gary Louth and Danny Murray gave Bentham a 3-0 lead.
Rob Evans supplied Burton's consolation effort.
Bentham will now meet the winners of the Swarthmoor v Cartmel game in the quarter-finals.
In the Sam Price Memorial Cup's second round, Arnside found themselves 2-0 down after 12 minutes to Westgate Wanderers with Stuart Gordon and Rob Brockbank on target.
Battling back, Arnside equalised through a brace of goals from Ben Lenton to put the tie on a knife-edge.
Westgate got a break when awarded a hotly-disputed penalty and Aaron Simpson held his nerve to put them into a 3-2 lead.
Arnside went for broke and were caught on the break with Wayne Rowlands sealing a 4-2 defeat. Westgate face the winners of the Kirkby Lonsdale v Slyne Hest tie.
Storeys and Cartmel met in the match of the day and it lived up to its billing.
Both sides went on all-out attack from the first whistle, but Storeys took the lead when a Cartmel defender miskicked to tee up the ball for Nick Pinnington. Although his initial shot was blocked, the ball came back for him to score with the follow-up.
Cartmel began to use the width of the pitch better and almost scored through Ben Clarke and Chris Huitson, but they continued to press in the second half and were almost caught on the break.
Cartmel continued to attack and Joel Drinkall had a goal-bound shot cleared off the line.
However, Storeys broke clear twice but could not convert their chances but had done enough for a 2-0 win that brings them up against Marsh United in the semi-final.
Kirkby Lonsdale booked a place in the Westmorland FA Senior Cup semi-finals when showing no mercy to Westmorland League opponents Keswick in an 8-0 thrashing.
Ace scorer Steve Chapman scored four goals, while in-form Chris Vincent bagged a couple with Tom Brown and Alex Taylor also on the scoresheet.
Ingleton were in Premier Division action and had most of the play against Power Station, but could only score once with a peach of a goal from Oliver Driver.
Ingleton continued to spurn their chances, which could have proved costly in the last few minutes as Power Station enjoyed their best spell of the game.
In Division 1, Holme Athletic probably ended Vine's last chance of promotion when holding them to a 1-1 draw in a scrappy affair.
Vince led through a Richard Simmonds goal at half time but Holme, looking for points to pull them away from the bottom of the division, drew level when Steve Baldwin slipped his marker to equalise.
Cartmel Reserves could not follow-up their cup defeat of Storeys Reserves and went down 4-0 with goals from Jonathon Byers, Stuart Morgan, Dean Pacholezak and Tom Bentley.
In Division 2, Halton Rangers jumped back to the top of the table, taking advantage of Bentham's cup game, by thrashing Kirkby Lonsdale Rangers 6-0.
Bolton-le-Sands and Marsh Utd Res met and shared the spoils at 2-2 which probably means both have lost out on a promotion chance.
An Andy Banks penalty was followed by a 30-yard screamer from Daniel Shepherd for Sands, while Marsh replied with a Graham Rose penalty and a goal from Stuart Angus.
Veteran Dave Cross scored both of Burton Thistle Reserves' goal in a 4-2 defeat at high-flying Central Pier, for whom Matthew Burkitt netted a hat-trick.
A Richard Spendlove goal for Allithwaite Reserves was not enough to stop Pendle Reserves, who won 4-1.
