A TRY two minutes into stoppage time denied Kendal winning points they had fought hard and long for as they shared the spoils in an 8-8 draw at Fylde in National League 3 North on Saturday.

It was never a pretty contest, there were too many errors for that, but Kendal invested a lot of commitment and with centre Martin Armstrong, in particular, looking very dangerous, they appeared the side most likely to score in the first half.

The visitors put it all together to score the match's only try in the 25th minute.

Seizing on loose ball at the back of a lineout, Kendal's quick hands released the ball in a sweeping movement which went left and then right before John Ladell, the league's leading try-scorer, beat the last man on a 40-metre touchline run-in to the corner.

Fylde enjoyed the better of the second half as their pack began to put together some impressive phases of play. The pressure earned a 47th-minute penalty and Paul Green slotted it over to close the gap to two points.

Stand-off Dan Stephens cancelled the kick out in the 70th minute with a penalty, but Fylde swept back on the attack.

Fylde crossed the tryline right at the end of normal time, but the score was not given because of a forward-pass.

But Kendal missed a great opportunity to clear their lines, came straight back under pressure and when scrum-half Mark Airey could not get the ruck ball away, Fylde second-row Grant Ferguson nipped through and fell on the ball to level the scores.

It stayed that way with Green missing the conversion - probably a fair result overall.
