PREMIER Division leaders Kirkby Lonsdale were often outplayed by Division Two side Fylde during their Adam and Gaskell Senior Cup tie, but still ran out 3-0 winners.
Kirkby owed their second round victory to a solid defence, which held the many Fylde attacks at bay.
At the other end, Kirkby's experienced forwards knew how to take advantage of their few chances and netted three times from four shots on target through Gary Hartley, Andy Metcalf and Kevin Cowin.
In the Sam Price Memorial Cup Arnside and Boys Club could not produce a goal even with 30 minutes of extra-time in their first-round match, a situation not helped by both sides being without their main strikers.
Arnside finally took the tie 5-4 in the penalty shoot-out.
In the Premier Division, Ingleton's championship chances suffered a massive blow when they were beaten 2-1 by second-placed CCM Dynamos.
Ingleton had most of the first-half play, but could not break down the hard-working Dynamos defence.
At the start of the second half Dynamos began throwing players forward and Stuart Thwaites gave them the lead. It was doubled within minutes as Steve Wiggins netted a superb goal.
Stung into action, Ingleton hit back with a tremendous strike by veteran centre- forward Chris Bibby, but the fight-back was too little and too late.
Cartmel moved up three places to challenge the leading group as they easily beat Morecambe Royals 3-0.
Fielding several young players, Cartmel fully deserved their win, in which Dean Richards scored twice. The best spell of football brought the third goal, however, as a rare Royals attack was broken up.
The ball was swept out to winger Alasdair Daggart, whose mazy run beat three defenders before he unleashed an inch-perfect cross which was met at the far post for Chis Huitson to head home.
In Division One, a good young Ingleton Reserves side held City Contract Services to a 1-1 draw.
Ingleton led at half time though recent signing David Preece, with City Contracts equalising early in the second half.
Holme Athletic were 2-0 down less than three minutes into their match with Morecambe Royals Reserves, but recovered from the early blitz as Lee Waddington scored to take them into half time just one goal down.
Waddington squared things up at 2-2 just after the break then completed his hat-trick only for Royals to equalise at 3-3.
Royals then took a 4-3 lead, but Graham Dodd bundled in a late equaliser as the highly-competitive, but friendly, match ended 4-4.
Burton Thistle made light work of Millhead, beating them 4-1 in their local derby. The win moved Thistle out of the relegation places and above Millhead.
Mark Smith was the architect of the Burton win with a scintillating hat-trick with Richard Hayhurst scoring the other goal. It was Millhead's Derek Davidson who scored the goal of the game, however - a screaming shot from 30 yards.
Swarthmoor SC got back to winning ways by gaining revenge over Slyne-Hest Reserves, who had beaten them 3-0 at their first meeting. Swarthmoor were all round the better team and won 6-2 with goals from Graham Wilcock, Ryan Lackey (2), Gavin Jolley and Stuart Hall (2).
Leaders Carnforth Rangers extended their lead in Division Three to 13 points after winning their 14th straight league game.
They overwhelmed Allithwaite Reserves 7-0 with goals from Seamus Gorton (3), Alec Gorton (3) and Michael Whitham.
Grange Reserves lost 6-3 to second-placed Trimpell. Grange trailed 2-0 after just 10 minutes and never got back on terms despite goals by Jamie Bisset, Lee Harrison and Michael Purvis.
Burton Thistle Reserves and Gregson shared 10 goals in a match which saw both sides throw everything into attack. Steve Everson, Steve Webster, Ian Atkinson and Gary Wilkinson scored for Thistle, but they trailed 5-4 with time running out when Gregson's Richard Camp, who had scored twice already, put through his own goal to make it 5-5.
For 25 minutes Poulton United put Millhead Reserves under intense pressure, but Matthew Sprules broke away and scored. It opened the floodgates and Millhead ran out 12-1 winners, their other goals coming from Darren Eales, David Lobley, Joe Wooff, Chis Sowerby (2), Anthony Leonard (4) and Neil Morris (2).
