KENDAL notched their fourth win in a row in National League 3 North with a convincing 20-8 victory over New Brighton at Mint Bridge on Saturday.

A heavy pitch made it a bit of a slog in the second half, but Kendal defended resolutely to defend a healthy 20-0 half-time lead.

Tries from lock-forward Dave Preston (10 min) and right winger Jon Ladell (34min) were supplement by stand-off Dan Stephens who kicked both conversions and added two penalties.

Kendal forced the visitors into conceding a steam of penalties and they had two players yellow-carded for persistent offending in the last 10 minutes of the first half.

Lively running by the backs and a confident, solid display by the forwards up front kept New Brighton on the back foot, and although they enjoyed much better possession in the second half they coul not batter a way through until flanker Jon Sewell was driven over for a try with nine minutes remaining.

Stand-off Tony Birley failed with the conversion and was earlier out of luck with two penalties before he slotted one over.

Now Kendal head for bottom club Bedford Athletic next Saturday.
