SEDBERGH Wanderers remain the only unbeaten team in Division One of the Talbot Insurance Westmorland League following a 3-2 home victory over Coniston.
The win lifts them up to fourth place, five points adrift but with two matches in hand on Kendal County, the current leaders.
Returning after a lengthy break from league action, Sedbergh went behind when Glen Todd smashed in an acute-angled shot for the visitors, but the setback spurred them on and before half time arrived Mike Harrison had scored twice to give them a 2-1 lead.
Harrison produced clinical finishing on each occasion as chances fell at either end and both sides felt they were denied valid penalties.
By the time Roger Keighley added Sedbergh's third with a shot from the edge of the area, they looked in control, playing good, passing football.
Sedbergh's decision to withdrew key players shortly afterwards backfired, however, and Todd added a second for Coniston from the edge of the box for 3-2 tomake it an uncomfortable last 15 minutes for the home side.
Everything clicked for Windermere with an 8-2 win over Carleton Rovers in which Jamie Parkinson claimed a hat-trick.
Callum Thwaites opened the account with a goal direct from an in-swinging corner before Parkinson's fierce 15-yard shot made it 2-0 only for Rovers to cancel out the effort.
Windermere were in unstoppable form, however, and Warwick Picking slotted in after an initial shot was blocked.
Parkinson then cracked in a 20-yard effort and Nicky Lewthwaite supplied the goal of the game with a long-range, Brazilian-style volley.
Windermere substitute Ben Mitchinson carried on the good work with a delicate chip over the keeper and Parkinson beat a defender and hammered in his third.
Carleton scored a second to make it 7-2 but Windermere had to last word, Ben Mitchinson tapping in from ten yards out to close a fine display from Windermere.
Promoted Ibis enjoyed their fourth win in nine league matches to move to fifth in the table.
Despite a weakened side, Ibis were too strong in all departments for a struggling Staveley United, winning 4-1 with a brace of goals from Gary Taylor, one of them a penalty, and others by Mark Carradus and Chris Ellwood.
Sweeper Mike Packham and Stuart Gilpin ruled the roost in midfield for Ibis to keep a firm grip.
Leaders Kendal County were made to work for a 4-2 win at Ambleside United in the first round of the Benevolent Trophy.
Ambleside went ahead and battled well before the tie was put beyond them late in the second half.
In a scoreless first half, County's Ollie Wilson came closest to opening the scoring with a header against the post as the visitors toiled on the heavy pitch.
Instead, Ambleside went ahead when the nippy Phil Parsons latched on to a long ball and lobbed the keeper.
County responded when Ian Alpin's cross found Ryan Wallace at the far post to equalise and Peter Nicholls headed home a second when left unmarked at a corner.
A reshuffle in the County defence unsettled things as Ambleside's Dan Ramsey struck to level the scores, but substitute Craig Walmsley restored County's lead when upended and scored the penalty before Nicholls' first-time shot sailed over the keeper to ensure a happy outcome.
Kendal Town Reserves progressed in the Westmorland Senior Cup with a 3-1 win at Appleby.
Both teams found it difficult to control the ball in the poor conditions and remained deadlocked after a scrappy first half.
Appleby had an edge from corners and crosses but Craig Nelson and David Nugent could not find the target with headers.
Instead, Kendal's Shaun Pooley put the visitors ahead when he turned his man to cut in for a near-post run and finish coolly.
Appleby managed to level the scores after Nelson's goal-bound header was handled on the line and John Coward tucked away the penalty. But Appleby still looked second-best against Kendal's ten men and could not get hold of the ball.
From a half-cleared corner, Gary Major fired an unstoppable shot into the Appleby net and then tough-tackling midfield substitute Matt Wooff won the ball and released Pooley to slot in the third for a deserved win.
Burneside lost 2-1 to Dent in Division Two with Will Gunning on target for them, while Burneside Reserves pulled back a 2-0 deficit to beat Cartmel Reserves 4-3 in the Junior Cup.
Four second-half goals on the trot did the trick with Daniel Croskell, Lee Finch (2) and Graham Withers completing the revival despite a late Cartmel strike to knock out last year's beaten finalists.
Lunesdale United welcomed back Warren Kinley, who has re-signed for the club and he showed his worth when he combined with Darren Potter and then coolly lobbed the goalkeeper to give Lunesdale the lead in their 2-1 win over Keswick Reserves.
Almost immediately an Andy Lockhart free kick found Johnny Lowis in space and he chested the ball down to volley in a second goal.
Lunesdale were well on top and had further chances to score before Keswick pulled one back with a hotly-disputed penalty.
Burneside A hauled themselves off the foot of Division Four with a 4-3 victory over Windermere A, with Craig Waller (2), Paul Duckett, Gary Thompson on the scoresheet.
