STAVELEY'S Sharon Taylor was crowned Queen of Haworth Moor' on Sunday when she won the seven-mile Withins Skyline fell race.
The 25-year-old English championship bronze medal-list added to her wins at Stanbury and Auld Lang Syne both of which are based on the Bronte fells by winning the 13th Withins race in fine style. She has twice been runner-up in the race, but this time beat a field of 51 ladies to finish 59th overall clocking 54-19 in heavy conditions.
Romford born John Hennigan, 22, a Leeds student, won his first ever fell race breaking away from the chasing pack on the climb over Bronte waterfalls. This is his first full season on the fells and he recently ran for Yorkshire in the Blisco Dash race where he claimed a silver medal for his county.
Best-placed South Lakeland runner was Ambleside's Chris Speight who worked his way through the field to finish a highly respectable 11th out of a huge field of 275 starters.
The junior races were well contested with some 75 youngsters toeing the line at the start. Ingleton's Ben Morphet won the U14s prize in holding off Richard Shuttle-worth, who was third overall, in 6-50. The first U12 was English champion Thomas Sessford who was second overall just two seconds behind Morphet. Helm Hill's Rory Addison was first U10 in fourth place overall and he set a new record time of 7-17, clipping seven seconds off the old mark. His cousin Jenny Addison won the girls race and set a new record in the U12s of 7-46 which was 24 seconds faster than the previous best time. First U16 boy was Helm Hill's Tom Addison who came home in 12-25.
