SQUASH: Kendal Squash Club's A and B teams both won on Tuesday night to maintain their 100 per cent record for the season.
The A team played at home to Penrith A and won 4-1. Kendal's young star Ben Selby continued to improve and won his game against Peter Mercer 3-1 playing at No. 5.
Both Duncan Precious and Alistair Pease, for Kendal, played solidly, each winning without dropping a game. Kendal A team captain Graham Braithwaite came from behind to win 3-2. The game of the night was between the top seeded players, with D Gray from Penrith beating Erik Worsley 3-1.
Kendal B played away to Penrith B. Despite losing the first game Kendal's Chris Greenwood had a comfortable match playing at No.5 against Vera Jackson and eventually won by three games to one. Tony Dixon for Kendal had a fierce struggle with Charles Lowther, finally losing by the odd game in five.
John Smith, the Kendal captain, played with his normal consistency and calmness to run out a 3-0 winner against Alan Reading. He came back from 8-3 down in the second game to secure a 10-8 victory, and went on to complete the match winning 9-4 in the third.
Colin Mather's defeat, in a game closer than the straight sets result suggests, left the tie evenly balanced at two matches each.
Kendal Club Captain Guy Huxtable played Penrith No.1 Doug Huggan in the deciding game. After a long struggle, Huxtable managed to win the final game to win the tie for Kendal.
