Kendal Town 4, Telford United 2.

Kendal Town's ability to cut defences to shreds was demonstrated against Telford, one of the highest rated sides in the UniBond League First Division.

Just three minutes from the start Peter Smith, who had a superb game on the right wing whipped in a cross and striker David Foster glanced an accurate header wide of the Telford keeper.

Three minutes more and Telford were level as Kattos rose to head over Town keeper Mark Thornley.

The joy of the Telford player in notching his first goal for the club was short-lived, however and on 13 minutes Foster raced in on a back-pass to the Telford keeper, whose hurried clearance slammed into Kattos and rebounded to trickle over the line for Kendal's second goal.

The score-line remained 2-1 until the 66th minute, but it was by no means a dull match with slick-passing Town missing out on half-a-dozen chances and the defence comfortably closing down some fluid Telford moves.

Then came the decisive period in the match left-back Paul McMenemy surged forward and found himself one-on-one with the keeper. His shot was blocked, but the ball shot away sideways into the path of Ricky Mercer who made it 3-1.

Seven minutes later Town effectively sewed the game up as substitute Michael Jack whipped the ball into the box, Smith nodded it on and hard-working playmaker Kenny Mayers got his just reward with a well-directed header.

Telford battled gamely for the remainder of the game and hit the bar before Parrish finally netted in the 82nd minute.

Realistically, however, there was no way that Town were going to loose their grip on the game.

Tomorrow Kendal are in UniBond League Cup first round action at home to Rossendale United. Kick-off at Parkside is at 7.45pm.
