DINGHY sailing sisters Anna and Emily MacKenzie and Emma Houlihan, who learnt to sail at the Royal Windermere Yacht Club, have been chosen to represent Team GBR in 2005 World Championships.

They all qualified through the RYA National Junior Mirror Squad for membership of Team GBR and will sail at the Mirror World Championships in Ostersund, Sweden, in August next year.

To qualify for the National Squad and World Champion-ships, Anna (who sails with Holly Scott from Shustoke SC in the Midlands), Emma and Emily (who sail together), had to compete in a number of Area and National Championships throughout the summer, together with the European Championships in Ireland.

The four will now join other members of the National Junior Squad at eight training weekends throughout the winter and early spring in preparation for next season.

Anna and Emily live in Kendal and attend Kirkbie Kendal and Windermere St Anne's schools, while Emma lives in Windermere and attends The Lakes School.

Emma and Emily have been sailing together for three seasons and reaching the National Squad is the culmination of a lot of hard work and practice.

Anna and Holly are a new pairing after having sailed successfully with other partners.

All four girls are looking forward to the World Championship event, which will be fought out on Storsjon Water, which is about 350 miles south of the Arctic Circle.

They expect to be part of a 120-strong fleet of boats, with entries coming from all over the world.

Anna tasted success on the world stage two years ago, when she crewed for her big sister Katie when they were the first all girl boat in the World Championships in Hobart, Tasmania.

n THE third race of the Royal Windermere Yacht Club's Flying Fifteen Autumn Bowl series was sailed in pleasant autumnal conditions with enough of a northerly breeze to encourage the fleet to sail a north lake course.

Nigel and Jean Tullett in Kiffs made a clean start and got away, leaving the competitive sailing to the rest of the fleet.

The main group kept in close touch over the windward beat, but on the spinnaker runs Bev Armer and Andrew Whitehead in Ffidget gybed off to sail a straight course to the next mark leaving the other boats well astern.

Terry Tinn and John Wright in Flying Ferret held off John Atkinson and Elizabeth Moreton sailing Asihambe to take third.

n THREE boats raced in the RS400 Autumn series, following the same course as the Flying Fifteen fleet.

In a good northerly breeze James Nield and Ian Frith in You're My Wife Now Dave narrowly won from John Richardson and Ollie Barker in Pink Pig , with Paul Legge and Charles Scott third Kangar.
