LONDONERS Richmond were left stunned by a Kendal side that blended elusive running rugby with magnificent defensive work for a memorable 18-13 Powergen Cup victory that sets up a home tie with Waterloo in the next round on November 6.

Richmond had an 80-match unbeaten league run behind them as leaders of London 1, while Kendal have only won a handful of away matches since the end of the 2001/2 season.

After Richmond led 6-3 with two penalties to one, Kendal's first try came when full back Simon Mulholland finished off an elusive running sequence and Kendal did well to hang on to the home side's coat-tails at only 13-8 down at half time.

Kendal took Richmond by storm with a second try after half time when challenging their energies into a driving maul, from which Dave Preston touch down, and then a third try came when Martin Armstrong played the ace card of a crossfield kick that sent Chris Park over.

When Armstrong was sinbinned for not releasing in defence, a 14-man Kendal held firm as their tryline came under seige to clinch a famous victory.
