Kendal's Judo Club has been given approval to erect a new building on land that is being redeveloped for sports use.
The site at Cinder Ovens has already received planning permission for floodlit sports pitches and a changing pavilion.
Councillors were concerned that the provision of a new Judo club would result in a loss of five parking spaces at the site but this was alleviated by agreements to allow parking at the leisure centre and nearby Kirkbie Kendal School. The design has been a major issue with this proposal as the Judo club has a fixed sum of money available for the build and does not want to overspend this.
Councillors voted to give powers to the Director of Strategy and Planning to grant permission after negotiations over the design materials to be used are concluded.
