SIXTEEN-year-old James Atkinson, a member of Kendal Golf Club for five years, represented the North of England U16s in an international match against Scotland U16s at Dumfries and County Golf Club.

Although narrowly defeated in the morning foursomes, James came out all guns blazing in the afternoon singles, defeating his opponent 5 & 4, playing some outstanding golf in extremely blustery conditions.

His point helped the North of England side gain a creditable overall draw against supposedly superior opposition.

James, who plays off a handicap of three, had already been crowned Cumbria Junior Champion three weeks earlier when winning the Cumbria Boys and Girls Champion-ships held at Kendal, when he beat the top juniors from throughout the county.

"Overall, it has been a season to remember for James and with continued hard work, further improvement and more success awaits," says Andrew Wilkinson, Kendal GC's Junior Organiser.
