ROB Jebb's reign as King of the Three Peak Cyclo-Cross Race goes on after a fourth consecutive individual title in Sunday's renewal.

He also led the Wheelbase-Ron Hill team to victory for the second year running.

Jebb, 29, from Staveley, finished in 3hr 4min , 8 min 29sec clear of Nick Craig, the Derbyshire-based professional just back from the World Mountain Bike Championships, in second place for the third time, with Wheelbase's Lewis Craven, from Preston, stepping up from his 20th place last year to finish third in 3-19 Stuart Reid, from Burneside, having his first major race since illness during the summer, was the team's third counter in 29th.

Two other Wheelbase riders were James Dalton who was 170th and Paul Trott, 15th veteran after a couple of punctures.

Gale-force winds and mist and rain on the top of the Peaks and made it a testing, treacherous event this year as the 350-strong field, including riders from as far away as the United States and New Zealand, set off from Helwith Bridge.

Riding along the road to Horton-in-Ribblesdale they had to ascend Ingleborough before desdencing to Coldcotes and skirting Ingleton to tackle Whernside, on past the famous viaduct and back to Hurton to go over Pen Y Ghent before returning to Helwith Bridge for the finish.

Robb, British fell running champion in 2003, said: "It's just sp special a race - nothing else compares to in it the world and I fell honoured to be able to win such a classic race."

His aim is now to try and surpass the achievements of multiple Three Peaks winners Eric Stone (five) and Tim Gould (six).

Meanwhile, the Wheelbase tackle National Cyclo-Cross Championship fixtures for the first time as a team when they start next week in Matlock.
