ARNSIDE'S Wayne Sisson/ Allan Whittaker (Horwich) put in a controlled drive on last weekend's Plains Rally in mid Wales for a fourth consecutive Group N win and sixth place overall among many more powerful cars to clinch the 2004 BTRDA Mitsubishi Motors-run Production Cup title in their Arnside Motorsport Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 7.
Having only to finish within the top-five class positions, they set off from the start in Welshpoolwith this in mind. However, setting the third fastest time overall on the first stage gave them a commanding class lead which they held all day, despite nearly throwing it all away on stage six when a tightening left corner caused them to slide wide, narrowly missing the log pile on the outside of the corner.
This was a wake-up call to back off and drive for the title rather than a Group N win on the day. Fortunately, both wins proved to be the outcome.
