KENDAL lost goalkeeper Mark Thornley through injury and had full-back Paul McMenemy sent off as they bowed out of the FA Cup at Prescot's Valerie Park on Tuesday evening.
Prescot front men Lee Cooper and Karl Connelly made an impression on this replay from the onset as their movement gave the Kendal defence cause for concern.
David Foster saw his first time shot sail over the Cables' crossbar on 22 minutes following a Michael Jack cross from the right wing, but it was the home side who took the lead six minutes later when referee Mr I Esat, whose officiating came under fire in the first game, harshly adjudged Kendal's Dene Whittal-Williams to have bundled the lively Cooper to ground deep inside the box. Cooper then side-footed the ball past Thornley from the penalty spot to give Prescot the lead.
Kendal had a good case for a penalty of their own just a minute later, but Mr Esat ruled that a trip from behind which sent Russ McKenna sprawling took place just outside the area.
Lee Ashcroft took the free kick but the ball flew over the bar.
Former Kendal player Simon Garner ensured the home side took a two-goal advantage into the break when his 38th minute effort just eluded Thornley.
McMenemy brought Kendal back into the tie with a well-taken goal 13 minutes into the second half to make it 2-1, but straight from the restart goalkeeper Lee Ward, who had just replaced the injured Thornley, was caught out by speculative 35-yard strike from Connelly as the home side led 3-1.
Kendal's frustrations mounted when they were denied the opportunity to peg a goal back from the penalty spot despite Foster clearly having his legs taken from under him. The decision which went against Tony Hesketh's men was to be a major turning point.
Kendal's run of ill-discipline resurfaced, born out of frustration, as Ricky Mercer, who was dismissed in Saturday's game, found his way into the referee's notebook yet again.
Meanwhile Connelly grabbed Prescot's fourth when his free-kick went in off the underside of bar on 76 minutes and a minute later McMenemy was shown the red card for an off the ball incident involving Prescot's Kevin Garforth.
The home side went 5-1 ahead as Connelly claimed his hat-trick then, with the tie beyond Kendal, Ashcroft netted a mere consolation from the penalty spot five minutes from time.
How they Rated: Thornley 7; Rigby 7, McMenemy 4, Whittal-Williams 7, Taylor 6; Mercer 6, Jack 5, McKenna 6, Ashcroft 6; Mayers 6, Foster 7.
